Olga Schlum, of Livonia, age 90, May 3, 2022. Formerly from Royal Oak and South Redford. Beloved wife of the late Lawrence Richard Schlum for 44 years. Loving mom of Derek Schlum and April (Sam) Viswanathan. Doting grandma of Nerissa, Octavia and Ophelia. Dear sister of Mary Warstler and many late siblings. Olga was the youngest of 12 children, born and raised on a small farm in Royal Oak, Michigan. She started cooking, babysitting, and doing other household chores from an early age. She enjoyed working, such as at an ice cream shop as one of her first jobs. She especially enjoyed working and socializing with coworkers at Burrough's in Plymouth, where she worked for 44 years until retirement. In earlier years, she especially loved going out with her husband (like seeing favorite musicians), golfing, bowling, sewing, and crafts like ceramics (with daughter), cross stitching, making wreaths, and mixing her own lipsticks. She enjoyed traveling many times to Orlando with her husband and kids and also to some girls trips with relatives. She vacationed with her daughter's family to Chicago, New Orleans, Hershey, Niagara Falls, and across the world to England and India. In more recent years, she especially enjoyed time with her grandkids, Solitaire, crossword puzzles, vintage game shows, medical and other shows, and mixing her own pink nail polish. She really enjoyed attending the ladies potluck group through church. She used to say Bingo was an "old people's" game, but she finally tried it with friends in her 80's and really enjoyed it! Olga always enjoyed cooking for others, household chores, gardening, and seeing family and friends. She was also very fashionable and loved shopping, stylish clothes, makeup, driving, and jazz music. She was very giving and hospitable, and she regularly welcomed her children's friends as her own, giving a listening ear and a place to spend holidays. She was also very friendly and outgoing and would talk to the melon guy at the supermarket or her neighbors. When first diagnosed with lymphoma three years ago, Olga accepted Jesus as her Savior, which ensures her home in heaven. She bravely fought recent illnesses, but she stayed positive with her typical sense of humor throughout. A Visitation will be held at the R.G. & G.R. Harris Funeral Home, 15451 Farmington Rd., Livonia, Friday, May 13th from 3-8 PM and Saturday, May 14th from 10-11 AM until her Celebration of Life Service at 11 AM. Memorial contributions can be made to American Lung Association and Shriner's Children's Hospital.
