Dwight Slater

July 10, 1927 — December 23, 2017

Dwight Slater, age 90, went home to be with the Lord on December 23, 2017. He was preceded by his dear wife, Barbara Slater and daughter Kayleen Merry (Slater). He leaves behind five children, Linnea Boese (Glenn), Dwight (Debbie), Bruce (Jill), Brent (Inell) and Kirk (Laura). He is also survived by 22 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Dr. and Mrs Slater served for 40 years in Africa in medical missions, beginning in the Belgian Congo and then moving to Cote d’Ivoire in 1961 for the rest of their ministry years. Dwight served God with boundless stamina, caring for others with medical and surgical excellence out of his deep love for Christ. At the age of 10 he felt God calling him into medical missions and he followed that call with stedfast zeal and joy. His desire was that every patient who came through the hospital have the opportunity to hear the gospel. Countless lives were saved physically by his medical care and innumerable souls were saved through his faithful witness. A memorial service will be held at Highland Park Baptist Church, 28600 Lahser Rd, Southfield, MI, 48034 at 11:00 a.m. on January 4, 2018, with visitation at 10:00 a.m.. Internment will follow at Coburn Cemetery in Strongs, Michigan. Memorial contributions may be directed to any of the following: World Venture, 20 Inverness Pl E, Englewood, CO 80112-5622: directed to the Ministry of Glenn and Linn (Slater) Boese for Cote d’Ivoire or to the ministry of Kirk and Laura Slater for Uganda.
