Dr. Gilbert Lee Sanders

Rev. Dr. Gilbert Sanders, of Livonia, passed away on October 06, 2024. He was born September 27, 1946 to Edward and Muriel Sanders of Clifton Hill, MO.

Dr. Sanders was married for 45 years to the late Susan Sanders and survived by son, Dale Sanders, daughter, Muriel Jansen, grandchildren Jacob, Jenna, Dylan, Morgan and siblings Carl and Bonnie.

Dr. Sanders was called to the ministry at the age of 17 by Chariton Ridge Baptist Church in Atlanta, MO (1964-1968). He graduated from William Jewell College in Liberty, MO with a Bachelor of Arts (1968) and went on to earn a Master of Divinity (1971), Master of Theology (1972), and Doctor of Philosophy (1979) from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY.

He was called to lead Bethany Baptist Church in Godfrey, IL (1982-1989) and Livonia Baptist Church in Livonia, MI (1989-2009). He additionally served as interim pastor at both 1st Baptist Church in Jerseyville, IL and Cherry Hill Baptist Church in Dearborn Heights, MI.

A Visitation will take place at the R.G. & G.R. Harris Funeral Home, 15451 Farmington Rd., Livonia, Thursday, October 10, 2024 from 2:00 - 8:00 PM.  His Funeral Service will be held at the funeral home Friday, October 11th at 1:00 PM.
