Dorothy Louise King

Dorothy Louise King 57 passed away on November 13, 2024. Dorothy was the13th and last addition to our large family born to Warren King (a salesman) and Elizabeth King (Collins) an Educator and musician. Dorothy was born on July 4th 1967 and  definitely was a firecracker. She was the only sibling that had her birthday celebrated and was told, to her delight, that the fourth of July was just for her.

Dorothy was a unique and positive person who always brought out the best in everyone. She came into this world with a diagnosis of Downs. With the support of the siblings and extended loving family of caregivers  Dorothy lived independently for twenty years.

Her loving family shared every milestone with Dorothy.  It was joyful  for us to witness her growth and advancement.

She loved art and music. Early on Dorothy enjoyed being able to join her older siblings who entertained children in Livonia parks, pools and parades. She was happy to don a costume and make-up to sing silly songs with the rest of the troupe.  Big events and small, no celebration would have been the same without Dorothy.  She enjoyed challenges; performing onstage and in life. Brave and fearless nothing would stop her.  Dorothy lived her entire life in the Livonia community and worked at several local businesses transitioning  to entrepreneurship, a self-starter and self-employed. Her 1st enterprise was a custom button printing business and her second business  “Dorothy To The Rescue” was First Aid Kits for families and pets.

She also enjoyed traveling to visit siblings in Indiana, Oregon and California.  Her staff also took her on excursions to Chicago and New York City.

She Leaves behind Sisters Susan Layman in Arizona, Judy and Mary King, Indiana  Marie Michelle (Pemberton) and Margaret King/Ahmed of Michigan.  Brothers James King (California), Jerry, Steve, Pete, John and Tom King of Michigan.

A Visitation will be held at the R.G. & G.R. Harris Funeral Home, 15451 Farmington Rd., Livonia, Sunday, November 17, 2024 from 11:00 AM until 8:00 PM.  Her Funeral Service will be on Monday, November 18, 2024 at 11:00 AM.

Dorothy, thanks for the fun, education, memory and love . You are in our hearts forever.
