William A. Thompson

William A. Thompson of Sterling Heights, age 96 years, passed away on November 8, 2024. Beloved husband of the late Maureen Thompson. Father to Allan Thompson, Janice Mendyka (Gary), Robert Thompson (Deborah). Grandfather to 3 children: Christopher Mendyka (Megan), Courtney Gmerek (Mike), Chelsea Sorrentino (Matt) and seven Great grand children: Cameron and Conner Mendyka, Owen and Lily Gmerek, Hudson and Stella Sorrentino plus Nora who is arriving shortly.
Born in Detroit to William and Isabella Thompson: William is one of three siblings, his sister Mary Matters (Deceased) and his brother Henry Thompson (Sandra).
Graduating from Henry Ford Trade School, he secured a Tool and Die Apprenticeship in Benton Harbor. Upon completion of his training he became an employee of General Motors, retiring in 1987. He held the position of Manufacturing Engineer Supervisor.
He served the United States Naval Reserve being discharged in 1953.
William was an energetic sports enthusiast, participating in golf, bowling, hunting fishing and target shooting. He particularly enjoyed Amateur Trap Shooting in and around Michigan.
He was an active leader in De Molay, Past Master Masonic Lodge #594, 32nd degree Scottish Rite and the Shriners.
He will be missed by Family and Friends.
