Thomas Samuel Kinnunen, age 73, formerly of Baraga went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 12, 2003 with his daughter Leann at his side. He died at St. Mary's Mercy Hospital in Livonia from complications due to leukemia. Thomas, son of the late William J. and Hazel O. (Isaacson) Kinnunen, was born on Nov. 25, 1929 in Laurium, MI. He graduated from Royal Oak High School in 1948. Thomas served in the US Army from 1951-53, the Army Reserves from 1953-57, and was a member of the American Legion Post #32 in Livonia. He graduated from Wayne State University in 1959. Thomas was employed as a mechanical engineer at General Motors for more than 25 years and retired in 1987. He resided in Livonia, MI. He is survived by his daughter, Leann H. Kinnunen of New York City; his former wife, Genevieve R. Kinnunen of Houghton; his brother, John W. (Elvira) Kinnunen of Baraga; his nieces, Kimberly Lamb of Algonac and Susan (Duane) Rhodd of New Haven; his grandnephew, Garrick (Nancy) Lamb and their daughter Shelby of Baraga; his aunt, Verna Tollefson of L'Anse; and several cousins. He was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley, who died in infancy. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral service, which will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, June 14th at the R.G. & G.R. Harris Funeral Home. Pastor David Martin will officiate. Burial will be in the Baraga Cemetery.
