SHIRLEY KATHLEEN NICHOLAS

April 6, 1955 – April 27, 2023

Shirley K Nicholas, of Livonia, suddenly passed away on April 27, 2023 from a brain tumor.  She was 68.

Shirley was raised in Redford Township, the oldest daughter to Dick and the late Mary Nicholas, and sister to Judy (Mike) Evans.  She worked the majority of her career at Glenn Computer Corporation, one of his first employees, serving as programmer, operator, and trusted helper to owner Glenn.  She especially enjoyed attending important conferences in Washington DC.

Shirley’s childhood was filled with happy memories.  As a family, with dog Coco, they camped across the US and Canada, taking month-long trips during summer vacations, visiting Dick’s family in San Diego and Mary’s family in Ontario.  These trips always involved hiking and rafting in National/Provincial Parks across the 2 countries.  Upon Dick’s retirement, their travels extended to Hawaii, Alaska, the Swiss Alps, and New Zealand.

Shirley was a lifelong member of Alpha Baptist Church and grew up a snow skier with family and friends from church.  Shirley began riding horses at Focus Ranch and Ivory Farms.  She then found her ‘horse home’ at the Earehart Morgan Training Stables.  She bought Parkridge Squire, a Morgan horse, and was thrilled to ride and show him.  She continued to be close to Carrie (Earehart) Nelson and her extended family.

Shirley also enjoyed numerous outings with the Howell & Sobanski families, including camping, scuba diving, and the Indy 500.  She had many happy memories of tent camping at the Pinery with family and friends and recently enjoyed camping in her luxury RV.

After buying a house in Livonia, Shirley always opened her door to friends.  She lived happily with Tia (her beloved poodle) and more recently with Chloe (her beloved bichon).

Shirley was dearly loved by the Evans family who welcomed her as their own daughter, sister, and aunt.  Many wonderful gatherings were spent with her extended family.  She put on a yearly scavenger hunt for the kids at Christmas, and loved giving gifts.  The world has one less kind, wonderful, generous person – dearly loved by family and friends.

Shirley’s life will be celebrated on Saturday, May 13, gathering at 10:30 am, with a memorial service at 11:00 at Alpha Baptist Church, 28051 W Chicago St. Livonia, MI  48150.  A luncheon will follow across the parking lot in the Family Life Center.
