There are no words to describe Robert E. Sills. Born January 8, 1932, he left us too soon on January 19, 2023. He was the strongest of strong. He fought the best battle, was a brave Navy man serving in the Korean war, leaving his bride at home with his beautiful daughters as he fought to defend our freedom. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend. Robert was a self-made professional, he was independently employed at Resco design, worked many years at Multi-Fastener with his friend David Sickles, “retired” and went to work at Metro Airport, until finally landing at his favorite job as a customer service representative at Costco Wholesale Club in Northville, Michigan. Robert and Arlene built a home in Livonia, Michigan in the early 1960’s and he was very active within the community throughout their years there. He served on the Livonia Zoning Board, and was a past president of the Livonia Spree. He also served as parish council president at St. Aidan's Catholic Church, where he was active in the Men’s Club, ushered at 9:30 am mass, and was a member of the Monaghan Knights of Columbus. In 1969 Robert and Arlene purchased a cottage on Hubbard Lake where they spent many summers with family and friends. An avid fisherman, he could be found many nights "trolling", cleaning buckets of perch and enjoying a cold one! As an avid golfer he looked forward to the late Archbishop Brunett's annual golf outing and shared this time with his grandsons and son-in law. More than anything, he loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Robert will be dearly missed by his loving wife of 71 years, Arlene (Angerilli), his daughter Marie (Jim) Mitchell, Angie (Duane) Szumlinski and Terry Kuzila. Adored by his grandchildren, Andrea Szumlinski DeLand, Lisa (Brian) O’Neill, Andy Mitchell, Tim (Kristi) Mitchell, Marlene (Joey) Giaconia, Peter Mitchell and Alexandra (Nate) Mitchell. Will always be remembered as “gramps” by his 7 great grandchildren, Alayna DeLand, Michael O’Neill, Andrew DeLand, Olivia O’Neill, Logan Giaconia, Kaiden Giaconia and Chase Giaconia, the late princess Lillian Rebecca O’Neill and brother Bill (Lynda) Sills. Robert will be forever missed by everyone who knew him. Our lives are more enriched having him a part of them. Our love for him lives on with his footprints on our hearts. Visitation and rosary at Harris Funeral Home, Livonia, on Sunday, January 22 from 5:00-9:00 pm; in state at St. Aidan Catholic Church, Livonia, Monday, January 23, 2023 at 10:00 am followed by funeral mass at 11:00. Please share a memory of Robert by signing his guestbook.
