Married to the love of his life, Janet Andrews. “Best friends forever.” Robert went to Our Lady Gate of Heaven Parochial Elementary school and graduated from Frank Cody High School in Detroit. During high school, he worked at Saunders Bakery and the US Post Office. He went into the Army after graduation. He then worked at Great Lakes Steel. Bob retired from Chrysler after 40 years as a tool & die maker. His father also retired from Chrysler after many years. Bob was very athletic, he played golf, basketball and hockey. Robert also played baseball for Forge Steel. On October 25, 1976, Bob’s team won the championship at Soft Ball City despite the 38 degree weather and mud up to their ankles. He loved to bowl and traveled in tournaments all over. It was a great team, always coming in first. Bob loved life and enjoyed it to the fullest. He loved to travel with his wife on cruises, visiting cities and countries in all directions: north, south, east and west. Always together. Robert’s hobby was his corvettes. He owned many of them. In his younger days, Bob even raced downriver at the Detroit Speedway. He was very active until arthritis stepped in and slowed him down. Bob loved his family but was especially fond of his granddaughter, Brittany. Athletic like him, she played ice hockey for many years and every other sport she could get into. Brittany golfed, bowled and coached Lacrosse at Ladywood High School. Robert never missed a game. She was just like him in all sports. Brittany is now a trauma ICU nurse at Detroit Receiving Hospital as well as attending college courses to become a nurse practitioner. Bob had hoped that he would be able to see her graduate.
