Richard J Hayward, of Livonia, age 94, February 25, 2023. Richard was born in Windsor, Ontario on October 3, 1928 to Thomas and Irene Hayward. He was a graduate of W.D. Lowe Technical High School and attended Assumption College. Richard was an original member of the Windsor Spitfires Junior A Hockey team.
Richard enlisted in the U.S. Army and served at Fort Belvoir, Virginia as a surveyor in the Corps of Engineers. He married Genevieve Rubaszkiewicz in 1949 and after his honorable discharge from the service they settled briefly in Virginia before moving to Michigan.
Richard was a sales executive in the structural steel business in the Metro Detroit area for five decades. He graduated from Madonna College. He served on the Board of Trustees at both Schoolcraft College and Madonna College (University). Richard was a member of the Livonia Rotary Club and Toastmasters International. He volunteered for many years as a coach in the Livonia Hockey Association.
Richard was an active member of St. Aidan Catholic Church where he was a parishioner for 57 years. He was involved with the men’s club, volunteered as an usher, taught catechism, and played for many years in the Golf and Bowling leagues.
Richard was predeceased by his loving wife of 70 years Genevieve in 2020, and by his parents Thomas and Irene, and his sister Barbara (Joan) Mayville. He is survived by his children Barbara (Robert) Buszta, Richard (Debra) Hayward, and Patricia (Kevin) Day, dear grandchildren Richard and Katelyn Hayward, Stephanie (Danny) Walker, Dylan (Emily) and Colin Day and the light of his world great granddaughter Vivian Walker.
Instate at St. Aidan Catholic Church, 17500 Farmington Rd, Livonia, Wednesday, March 1, 9:30am until his funeral at 10am. Internment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
