Reynold Herman Frederick Juengel

July 19, 1927 — February 17, 2024

Reynold Herman Frederick Juengel, of Farmington Hills, passed away on February 17, 2024 at the age of 96. Rey was born on July 19, 1927 in Reese, Michigan, son of Victor and Laura Juengel. He graduated from Western High School in Detroit in 1945, then served in the U.S. Navy as an Electronic Technician's Mate Third Class, and was honorably discharged in July, 1946. He married Elda Marie Green in September, 1949 and earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering with distinction from Wayne State University in February, 1950. He worked for Ford Motor Company for over forty years in manufacturing engineering and managed the department at the Cleveland Engine Plant at the time of his retirement in 1993. He was known for solving machinery problems of all kinds, and was often sent to other Ford plants and suppliers with only the instructions, "Go fix it" - and that's exactly what he did. Toward the end of his career, he worked with great persistence to develop a line analysis tool using orthogonal arrays. This tool was used to increase productivity of a transmission line from 50% to 83%! Rey was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, serving as a deacon and running the Helping Hand Fund, among other volunteer roles. He was a member at West Bethlehem in Detroit, Faith Lutheran in Livonia, Royal Redeemer in North Royalton, Ohio, and at Christ Our Savior in Livonia. Many dear friends loved and cared for Rey and Elda in these congregations. After his retirement, he took up woodworking and enjoyed making picnic tables, each one of his own unique design. Later, he designed a cross and made over one thousand of them, giving all of them away to family, friends, and fellow church members including one for each member of the church confirmation class for several years. He is survived by his sister Carol Dowd, children Diane Green (Gary Roach), Janet (Dennis) Nordmoe, Christin Fernandez, and Cheryl (Aneil) Shah, grandchildren Wendy, Aimee (Ortenzio), Kara (Joe), Daniel (Rebekah), Laura (Nathan), Alissa, Erich (Selene), Ryan, Chris (Jen), Julianne, and Jaden, and great-grandchildren Amanda, Alana, Eva, Leo, Maia, MaryAnne, Olivia, Charlotte, Eleanor, Seth, and Leon. Preceding him in death were his wife Elda, his brother Roland Juengel, sister in law Sally Juengel, sister Vera (Dollie) Lieberman, brother in law Ron Lieberman, brother in law Ray Dowd, brother in law Stewart Green, and grandson Joel Nordmoe. There will be a Memorial Celebration of Life, at 11 am, with luncheon following, on Thursday, March 7, 2024, at Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church, 14175 Farmington Road, Livonia, MI 48154. A Visitation will be held at the R.G. & G.R. Harris Funeral Home, 15451 Farmington Rd, Livonia on Friday, March 8, 2024 from 2:00 - 8:00 PM. Rey's Funeral Service will be held at R.G. & G.R. Harris Funeral Home on Saturday, March 9th at 11:00 AM with committal service at Glen Eden Cemetery Chapel, followed by a luncheon at Laurel Manor at 1:00 pm.
