Raymond R. Suarez Age 95, March 19, 2017. Born in Broughton, KS in 1921. Raymond joined the Marines during WWII and served in the South Pacific. He was in most of the major battles including Iwo Jima. Raymond was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries sustained on Bougainville in the Salomon Islands. After the war he returned to the Detroit area where he married Josephine Muscat and had daughters Valerie and Debbra and his beloved granddaughter Carrie. Ray and Josephine loved to camp and had many wonderful trips in their Avion travel trailer. They belonged to a trailer club for many years. Ray also became active in Veterans affairs and was a member of the Marine Corps League, Trench Rats, VFW American Legion. He was Commander of DAV Chapter 114, Livonia eight times. Ray was also a service officer for DAV and was passionate in helping fellow veterans obtain services and benefits. In his later years Ray was invited to the local high schools to speak to their ROTC students about his experience in WWII. He was honored as Livonia's Veteran of the Year and for many years attended and participated in the Memorial Day Service in Livonia. His motto was Once A Marine Always A Marine.
