Masumi Hikosaka, of Novi, MI, age 54, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on July 13th, 2022, after a three-year battle with ovarian cancer. Masumi was born July 7, 1968, to Kyoko and Makoto Koya in Yokohama, Japan. She spent the first 29 years of her life in Japan. There she attended Toyo Eiwa University and later worked for the Nissan Motor Co., where she met Mitsuyasu. She gave birth to their son, Shunnosuke, in 1999. Masumi and her husband made the decision to emigrate to the United States and settled down in Novi. In the United States, she worked tirelessly to raise her son in a new country and pushed him to excel. She navigated customs and norms unfamiliar to her and made the United States her new home. She loved to cook for family and friends. Her cooking was second to none. She would travel hours to seek out the best foods and ingredients. She also loved flowers and tended to them in her home constantly. In her spare time, she continued her education in Mathematics at Eastern Michigan University. Masumi is survived by her beloved husband, Mitsuyasu, her son, Shunnosuke, and her parents in law, Kazu and Toru Hikosaka. Masumi also leaves behind many friends from across Japan and the United States. She will always be remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, and friend. A Visitation will be held at the R.G. G.R. Harris Funeral Home, 15451 Farmington Rd, Livonia, MI, on July 16 from 6PM to 9PM. Family and friends are invited to attend. Please share a memory of Masumi on her tribute wall.
