Obituary Mary Jeanette Snyder October 24, 1929 - November 26, 2023

Mary Jeanette Snyder, beloved wife of the late Robert E. Rasmussen and the late John A. Snyder, passed away November 26, 2023 at the age of 94.

She is survived by her son, Robert A. Rasmussen (Anne), and daughter Diane L. Gailey (Russell). Grandchildren include; Robert, Rusty (Renea), Nichole, Kristin (Jeff). Great grandchildren; Bailey (Charles), Jakob (Kristen), Samantha, Mitchell, Kaitlyn, Sidney, and Chase. Great-great grandchildren; Eleanor Mary Jeanette with one more on the way and due in December 2023. Also survived by her sister Vivian Hatfield and nephew Garrett (Kelly) and their children Grace and Connor.

Jeanette grew up in Kentucky, and later Detroit, Michigan. As a young wife and mother, her treasured and life long friend Alda encouraged her to go to college and pursue education. In fact, while raising two children she received her degrees from Wayne State University, to include a B.S. in Education in 1961, a Master’s in Guidance and Counseling in 1967, and finally a Specialist Degree in Education with a focus in Guidance and Counseling in 1971. Jeanette taught for 34 years altogether and began her career at Mason School in the South Redford School District teaching the fourth grade. In 1968, Jeanette became the first elementary counselor in South Redford as part of a pilot program that she developed. In 1984 she was moved to the middle school where she remained for the next 10 years. Jeanette was then a counselor at Thurston High School for one year. After retiring, she returned to the counseling office to fill a vacancy. Throughout her career Jeanette served as a building representative and was active on numerous committees. In 1967, Jeanette became a member of Kappa Chapter, Delta Kappa Gamma, an educational sorority. Again she served on numerous committees and held several chapter offices including president. She appreciated the opportunity to become aquatinted with many key women educators for several school districts. Jeanette felt fortunate to have worked in the South Redford School District.

Jeanette was very social and not only was she a loving family member, her friends always held a special place in her life. She was part of several families, to include her church family, and a kind and loving community at Fox Run. She enjoyed traveling with her friend Carol, working at Encore with her friend Alice, playing cards and other social activities.

Jeanette became the matriarch of an ever growing family and she loved each and every one, as they too looked up to her and loved her so dearly. She was always there for her family and other’s in need. As Jeanette aged she took on her physical changes with grace and strength. She moved in with her daughter Diane where she ultimately entered hospice. The family was blessed to be able to spend her last Thanksgiving with her and all were able to say their goodbyes. The last kiss she gave was to her her great-great grand-daughter Eleanor and though it was difficult, they each were able to share “I love you”s with one another. In the end, Jeanette wanted to be remembered as a kind and nice person. That is how we will all remember her and so much more.

Service times will be posted when avaiable.
