Mary Ann Wheeler (June 3, 1951-January 29, 2024)
Mary Ann, loving wife and retired librarian, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2024. Born to Myra G. (Smith) and Vincent J. Bruno, she is survived by her devoted husband, John Wheeler, and her brother Paul G. (Maria) Bruno, and sister-in-law Shirley Bruno. Mary Ann was predeceased by her parents and brother, James D. Bruno. She was a caring aunt to her many nieces and nephews, including Francesca, Cristina, Lauren and Vincent Bruno.
Residing in Plymouth for 34 years, Mary Ann and John were active members of Newburg United Methodist Church in Livonia. At home, she enjoyed playing hymns on the piano.
Mary Ann was a graduate of North Farmington High School, Oakland University, and a master’s degree in library science from the University of Michigan. She worked as a dedicated librarian for many years at Churchill High School in Livonia. She shared her love of books with her students, nieces, nephews and friends.
A passionate historian, Mary Ann spent her retirement sharing knowledge through public speaking engagements on Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson, and the Underground Railroad. Mary Ann and John were fond of visiting historic sites and they also traveled extensively researching the family genealogy.
Mary Ann was a great lover of animals. She particularly liked books and movies about animals.
Mary Ann will be dearly missed. A celebration of her life will be held on February 24, 2024, at 11 am at Newburg United Methodist Church, 36500 Ann Arbor Trail, in Livonia, MI.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the World Wildlife Fund or the Environmental Defense Fund.
