Lucile Elaine Myers

Lucile Myers of Livonia. Age 94. Lucile leaves daughter, Suzanne, son-in-law, Dennis, and innumerable friends and family to enjoy shared memories of travel, card games, music, talks in the Lakeview Room, and beautiful Lake Huron sunsets. Born in a house that is now a store on the main street of Birmingham, Lucile was a child of the Depression, which gave her a unique perspective and depth of character formed by those trials. Before her parents lost the property, Shadow Trails Inn on Walloon Lake, she enjoyed summers there, and continued to cherish those experiences throughout her life, along with good times with her lifelong friends Barb and Liz in Detroit. Her father became the proprietor of the Mount Royal Hotel on Woodward, and Lucile spent many an hour helping her mother in the hotel dining room. She attended Northern High School, and as many young girls do, developed a crush on her English teacher, possibly driving her pursuit of a bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Michigan. She told of teasing dialog about dangling modifiers and split infinitives as several friends congregated to walk with the teacher on the final blocks to school. Lucile became a Betsy Barbour Bud at U of M and maintained lifelong friendships with the gals of ’46, as well as becoming godmother to her roommate’s, Betts, first born son John. Post-graduation she was employed by the State of Michigan as a social worker, where she met and married her first husband, Bob. Together they raised their daughter, and hosted party after party for groups of Henderson United Methodist church, and other family friends. Lucile transitioned into the medical field and, once again, developed deep friendships with those she met at “Comey’s” and Bi-County. The Ladies of the Club emerged from those bonds. Lucile was a charter member (pre-deceased by Dorothy, Barb, and Mary Ann), and that group celebrated their 47th year together this October. Following the death of Bob, Lucile married her long-time neighbor Solly. Solly made a smooth adjustment from “Uncle” to “Dad” to Lucile’s daughter, and he and Lucile began many years of travels, enhanced by a rich church life as members of Metropolitan United Methodist church, and relaxing days at Point Clark. Outliving many, Lucile continued to forge strong relationships with new friends. Known as “one L” to her close-knit group of bridge gals, and Mum to surrogate daughter Barb, she enhanced the lives of many through birthday calls, thoughtful deeds, and sometimes unsolicited advice on bidding strategies. She, and close friend Sharon, hosted many themed bridge luncheons, the latest attended by a unique version of The Pope Mobile. Also known, affectionately, as The Queen Bee, Lucile left us with a directive – not to mourn, but to celebrate life, friendships and act with a caring heart to all you meet. A Private Service at White Chapel will be scheduled on a later date. Memorials to one of her favorite charities, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, would honor her life.
