Lotus David Cox, Jr., Age 90, November 14, 2015. Beloved husband of Williamena (Josie) Loving father of David Lotus Cox (Melody), Kathleen Marie Hocking (Ronald) and the late Carol Ann Morgan (surviving husband Peter) Dear grandfather of Matthew Bradley, Steven, Ashley, Kelly, Kevin, Caroline & the late Daniel and Tommy. Great-grandfather of Lachlen, Troy, & Brockton. Lotus was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on March 9, 1925 to Lotus David Cox, Sr. and Eura Estra Cox (Holt) He was preceded in death by brother Thomas Milton Cox. He attended Detroit Public Schools. His first job was at the age of 10 working on a milk truck for Wilson Dairy, followed by a newspaper route. He was a longtime resident of Westland, Michigan and resided at Four Chaplains Nursing Care Center for the last 10 months. In WWII, Lotus served in the U.S. Marine Corp. in the Pacific Theatre (Saipan, Marianas Islands, Okinawa, & Ryukyu Islands) and honorably discharged as Corporal in January 1946. He worked with the Detroit Police Department as a police officer for 25 years He was in the Motorcycle Unit and Motor Traffic Division as well as the Riot Squad. Also, Lotus was a member of the Detroit Police Tug of War team for many years. After retirement from the DPD, he was employed by Mt. Carmel Mercy Hospital as a Security Guard for 17 years. He also was a member of the VFW. He enjoyed the Annual DPOA family picnics held at Edgewater Park. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday at 11 am at the R.G. & G.R. Harris Funeral Home, 31551 Ford Rd., Garden City. Visitation will be Monday from 4-9 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be directed to the Salvation Army.
