Lilly Schembri

Lilly Schembri (Zammit), resting peacefully at the age of 89, left us on May 16, 2016. She resided in Livonia (and previously in Port Richey, FL). She was born on December 24, 1926, in Valletta, Malta. Beloved wife of Victor (deceased) for 57 years, before his death. Dear mother of Frank, Joann (Rick) Monterosso, Marion (Frank) Monterosso, Dorothy (Ron) Beutner, and Doris (Chris) Meadows. Dear sister of Maria and Angela. Dear sister-in-law of Charles, Grace and Tony. Grandmother of Rick (Kelly), Dawn, Lauren (Scott Gross), Frank, Ashley, Tony, Christopher, Candace, and Jacob. Great grandmother of Hadley, Max, Finley and Lucy. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Lilly was preceded in death by her parents, Angelo and Giovanna (Muscat); and siblings Josephine and Anthony Zammit. Upon being married in Malta in November of 1951, Lilly and Victor traveled to the US and settled in Detroit. She was a wonderful homemaker and nurturing mother to her five children. She knitted beautiful baby clothes, sweaters and crocheted blankets, as well as, beautiful needlework. She was a wonderful cook and loved to travel. Lilly was always looking for the positive in people and in circumstances. She believed in the power of prayer and was devoted to St. Jude. She loved to sing and had a beautiful smile. In 1983, Lilly and Victor relocated to Port Richey, FL, and enjoyed the sunshine of the southern state until they returned to Michigan in 2001. Rest in peace, our Sleeping Beauty. Visitation on Sunday from 3pm until 9pm, with a Rosary at 7pm, at the R.G. & G.R. Harris Funeral Home, 15451 Farmington Rd., Livonia. Funeral Mass Monday at 10:30am (gathering starting at 10am) at St. Edith Catholic Church, 15089 Newburgh Rd., Livonia. Following the mass, interment will take place in St. Hedwig Cemetery.
