Leonard J. Messenger

April 25, 1921 — February 14, 2011

Leonard J Messenger, born April 25, 1921 in Hillsdale, Okla. Graduated from Hillsdale High School 1939, attended and graduated from Moody Bible Institute where he met the love of his life, Frances Brandel. They were married August 14, 1948 and were together until Fran's death, June 21, 2010. For 20 years Len and Fran served with West Indies Mission/World Team in the Carribean. They both were involved in the teaching of national leaders at the Windward Bible Institute, St. Vincent. Churches were planted and Len helped physically build a church in Questelles. In 1969 they returned to Michigan where they worked for Grand Bible Bookstore, Highland Park. For the last seven years they resided at Henry Ford Village, Dearborn. Len was the loving father of Sharon (Jim) Roberts, David (Pam) Messenger, Barbara (Phil) Warren, Stephen (Auralie) Messenger, and Karen(William) Gunning. He is survived by 16 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. One of the national leaders Len mentored was Milton Williams, an evangelist and pastor in Grenada. The family requests that memorial gifts be designated for Milton through Independent Gospel Mission, 990 Calkins Rd., Rochester, New York. The memorial service for Len will be March 12 at 11:00, Highland Park Baptist Church, 28600 Lasher Rd., Southfield. Please share a memory of Leonard with the family by signing his guestbook.
