Josephine Garcia, age 93, of Livonia, passed away very peacefully on December 13, 2022.
Known as Pina to her family and close friends, she was born on September 18, 1929, in Detroit, to the late Onofrio and Jo Ann (Bommarito) Minaudo. Beloved wife of the late Jose Garcia, loving mother of Jaime (Gina) Garcia, and dearest grandmother of Carmen and Joseph. Pre-deceased by her sister Vita, brother-in-law Peter, and nephew Michael. Surviving relatives in addition to her children and grandchildren include nieces Lisa (Paul) DeLuca, Mary Jo (Paul) Nagel, and nephews Phillip (Julie) Licata, Anthony (Birgit) Licata, Tom (Adrienne) Licata and their children Adam, Paul, Joanna (Jesse) Young, Esther (Tyler) Osgood, Anna, Andrew, Sophia, and Vivian.
Doing for others was always what she liked best. It came naturally and genuinely made her happy. She loved to cook for family and friends, work in her garden, and provided a wonderful home to many stray animals over the years. After the death of her husband in 1988, she spent 20+ years working as a librarian at Sacred Heart Seminary, in Detroit. In retirement, her grandchildren were her life, and she loved them dearly. She was a private, independent woman with a deeply rooted faith, and an iron will.
Josephine will be in-state at St. Aidan Catholic Church, 17500 Farmington Rd, Livonia, Monday, December 19, 2022 from 9:00 AM until her Funeral Mass at 9:30 AM.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to any of her favorite causes: Michigan Humane, St. Jude, or the Fr. Solanus Guild.
Burial will take place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Southfield, MI
Many people have kept her in thought, and in prayer, over the years and it is sincerely appreciated.
Please share a memory of Josephine in her online guestbook.
