John L. Howlett of Livonia, Age 77, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on March 3, 2023. Beloved husband of Sandy for 51 years. Loving father of Jennifer (Stuart) DeMars, & Kristen (Mark) Pica. Dear Papa of the gang, Casey (Nick), Colin, Caty, Ally, & Vince. Brother of the late Sharon Bercham.
John was an achiever and wore many hats. He served his country in the Navy during the Vietnam War. He was a private airplane pilot. John was a leisure sailor and the helmsman on race boats for many years. He was an inventor obtaining a patent for a weather vane. He restored classic motorcycles and cars and could often be found at a local swap meet or classic car show. He was a Tool & Die Maker for Ford Motor Company and an entrepreneur owning his own business restoring classic British motorcycle instruments. Gunsmith, photographer, artist, model airplane enthusiast, stargazer, amateur meteorologist and a volunteer at the Steam Railroading Institute. John had many passions, but most important was his love for his wife and his family.
A visitation will be held at the R.G. & G.R. Harris Funeral Home, 15451 Farmington Rd., Livonia, Thursday, March 9, 2023 from 4:00 PM until his Memorial Service at 7:00 PM. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association.
