James Lloyd Meloche passed away peacefully on Monday, November 27, 2023 at the age of 80.  He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Janet Meloche, daughter Kelly Meloche, son-in-law Kevin Vergel-de-Dios, grandchildren Skyler, Raymond, Rocky and Violet and great grandchild Walkerann.  He is predeceased in death by his mother Martha Meloche, daughter Karen Waite and brother Herb Meloche.

Born in Detroit, Michigan in 1942, he worked as a designer for Ford Motor Company in Dearborn, Michigan for 23 years.  After retiring, he loved driving a school bus for kids with special needs.  he referred to everyone on his bus as "his kids" and they quickly became an extension of his family, many referring to him as "Grandpa Bus Driver".  He loved to make people laugh and there was always a joke or a story he couldn't wait to share.  His laughter was contagious and surely will be missed.

Jim was an avid cyclist.  Every year he participated in Bike MS, a charity that was near and dear to his heart.  He was passionate about raising money for those with Multiple Sclerosis riding 150 miles in 2 days.  He was no stranger to hard work and dedication.  In his earlier years he ran in both the Detroit Free Press and Boston Marathons.  Jim could always be found hanging out at the YMCA, preferably in the hot tub.  He loved to be connected to his community and loved ones.  He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather and Detroit Lions fan.  His love for life was undeniable and his presence will be forever missed, but never forgotten.

A special thanks to all the doctors, nurses and hospice caregivers that helped Jim through these past few months.

A memorial will be held at the Newburg United Methodist Church, 36500 Ann Arbor Trail, Livonia, Saturday, January 20, 2024 at 12:00 Noon.
