James "Pat" Costa

James "Pat" Costa Age 92, July 30, 2015. Beloved husband of Doris and the late Patricia Costa. Loving father of Julie (Peter) Kreher, Anne (Thomas) Hoger, James P., Jr. (Nancy), Peter, John (Lisa) and Mary Costa. Dear grandfather of Kristine, Matthew, Melissa, Sarah, Nick, Daniel, Stephanie and Allie. Great grandfather of Meaghan, Maura, Liam and Bailey. Dear brother of Margaret Brown, Judy (John) Rau, Kathleen (Peter) Boylan and the late Louis, Jr., Charles and John. Stepfather of Tammy (Bob) Mullins, Steve (Kim), Eric and Kim Morse. Pat was born in Detroit, MI on November 30, 1922 to Louis and Margaret (Yore) Costa. He graduated from Annunciation High School in 1940 and enrolled at the University of Michigan. He was accepted into the U.S. Marine Corp Officers training program. Pat served in the Pacific and Japan for 3 years until after WWII. At the end of his Marine service he returned to the University of Michigan where he completed his undergraduate degree and received his master's degree. He taught for 38 years in the Detroit Public Schools as a senior Health and Physical Education teacher. On May 30, 1952, Pat married Patricia Ann Meinert. They resided in Livonia, MI where they raised their six children, until her death in March 1993. In addition to teaching, Pat was a Summer Supervisor in the Livonia Parks and Recreation Department and taught square dancing for 25 years in the Metropolitan Detroit Area. Pat married Doris Cynthia Morse of Battle Creek on July 2, 1995. Pat and Doris enjoyed golf, U of M football and travelled to 49 countries. They were also Red Cross volunteers at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Battle Creek. Pat loved God, his family and his country and will be missed by his wife, 6 children, his 2 sons in law, 2 daughters in law, 8 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, 3 sisters, 4 stepchildren and their families. Visitation at the R.G. & G.R. Harris Funeral Home, 15451 Farmington Rd., Livonia, Saturday 4-8 p.m. and Sunday 1-8 p.m. with a Rosary Service at 7 p.m. Instate at St. Kenneth Catholic Church, 14951 Haggerty Rd., Plymouth, Monday from 9:30 until Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Memorials are preferred to Angela Hospice.
