Irene Edith Morrison
September 22, 1926 – June 23, 2024

Irene Edith Morrison, age 97 of Livonia, MI, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 23, 2004.  She was born in Detroit to Thomas and Mamie Bancroft, who preceded her in death.

She married Clare Keith Morrison in Detroit on August 3rd, 1946 at the age of 19.  She spent her early years doing clerical work for a tool factory and later for a doctor’s office, while Clare was building a career in banking.

Irene and Clare raised two boys, Donald and Gregory.  They loved golfing and travel, and all shared a love of dogs and animals.  They made the decision to move down to Fort Myers, FL after Clare suffered a stroke, where she dedicated herself to caring for him. Throughout their marriage they enjoyed the warm weather and sunshine, traveling in their RV, swimming, ceramics, golfing and playing cards.

In 2006, Clare passed away after 60 years of marriage.  After his passing, Irene moved back to Livonia to be closer to family.  In doing so, she was able to watch her grandchildren and great grandchildren grow up and spend more time with her son Don and his wife Diane.  Irene moved into Newburgh Village where she was surrounded by an amazing group of friends.  Her friends were special and always looked out for one another.  They enjoyed celebrating holidays and birthdays, playing games, drinking wine, laughing, and simply enjoying life together.

Irene was a ray of sunshine.  Everyone who crossed her path immediately fell in love with her sarcastic, yet kind soul.  She enjoyed music, singing and entertainment.  She was always appreciative of those who spent time with her or offered help in some way. She loved to have coffee and chat about life.  She was extremely proud of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She appreciated being pampered with a new haircut, new clothes and/or pretty fresh nails. She had a love of all sports but especially golf, Michigan football, the Olympics and soccer due to her great-granddaughter, Lexi. She was an absolute joy to be around and stayed positive towards life until the end. She will be greatly missed and forever remembered.

Irene is survived by her loving grandchildren, Jeff (Natalie) Morrison, Heather (Bill) Berner and Gregory Morrison; her daughter-in-law Diane Morrison; her great grandchildren Seth, Olivia and Alexis Morrison, Logan and Abbie Berner, and Summer Morrison.  She will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, extended family, and many good friends.  She was preceded in death by her brother Mickey Bancroft, her husband Clare, her two boys, Don and Greg Morrison and her grandson Ryan Morrison.

There will be no formal funeral, per her request.  Instead, there will be a Celebration of Life later in July with friends and family to share memories and toast to Irene’s fulfilled life.
