Henry James Kozyn

Henry J. Kozyn, of Livonia, age 96, passed away peacefully on August 9th, 2023.

Beloved husband of the late Cornelia Kozyn.  Loving father of John (Christina) Kozyn, Jacqueline Wood, Maria (Alan) Katsimpalis, Harriet Kozyn, Theresa Gedda, Thomas Kozyn, and Martin (Barbara) Kozyn. Dear grandfather of Jeremiah Gedda, Sarah Kozyn, Adrianna (Francisco) Moreno, Ariel (Alen) Gruda, Aaron Katsimpalis, Brandon Kozyn, Kaitlyn Kozyn and Samantha Kozyn. Great grandfather of Allende Moreno, Liliana Gruda and Rafael Moreno. Brother of Frank Kozyn of Colorado. Henry was preceded in death by his siblings, Jack, Joop, Ann Rood, Pete, and John.

Henry was born on April 29, 1927 in Lisse, Netherlands to Johannes (Jo) and Maria (Bus) Kozyn. After attending high school at the seminary, Henry joined the Royal Dutch Air Force. He married Corry in 1953, emigrated to Canada in 1959 with his family of five, and then to the US in 1970 with his family of nine! He was a self-taught Mechanical Engineer, a member of the Society of Professional Engineers and worked at Ford Motor Company for 28 years.

Henry enjoyed traveling and sought to visit every continental state with Corry as well as many trips back to Holland to continue with his research into the Kozyn/Kozijn/Cozijn family. This genealogical project was years, if not decades, in the making and he discovered an ancestor in the 16th century(!).

In 1987 he undertook another large project; he designed and built a new home for his family.

Henry enjoyed singing and his tenor voice was easily discerned in various church choirs over the years in Windsor and Livonia.  He also enjoyed collaborating together with Corry on the piano. And he was quite keen on supporting musical formation in all seven of his children as well. So many family gatherings included singing with guitar and piano accompaniment.

A visitation will be held at the R.G. & G.R. Harris Funeral Home, 15451 Farmington Rd., Livonia, Sunday August 13th from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm.  A Scripture Service will begin at 7:00 pm. He will be in state at St. Aidan Catholic Church, 17500 Farmington Rd., Livonia on Monday August 14th from 9:00 AM until his Funeral Service at 9:30 AM. Burial will be at Parkview Memorial Cemetery, 34205 5 Mile Rd., Livonia, MI 48154.
