HAROLD R. MONSKE Age 94. Passed away on August 31, 2017 after a short illness. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 65 years Betty May (Axce). Loving and much loved father of the late David Monske, daughter Laurie Blacker, son-in-law David Blacker. and grandchildren Katie and Dan Blacker. He was also preceded in death by his parents Leon & Emma Monske, brothers Arthur, Walter, Norman, Ernest, and sister Lucille (Kay). Graduate of Wyandotte High School (1941) and Michigan State College (1950). To say Harold liked to stay busy would be an understatement. Retired from Willsie Cap & Gown after a career in sales, Harold also was a dedicated high school sports official honored by the MHSAA in 2007 for his 50+ years of service as a basketball, baseball, softball, and volleyball official. In his spare time he and Betty loved to travel the world, especially by train. They covered every mile of track in the US and Canada, as well as all over Europe and Russia. While in Europe they were able to visit in peacetime some of the locations where he served during World War II with the 102d Ozark Infantry Division, 548th Antiaircraft Artillery Automatic Weapons Battalion, Battery D. Harold loved sports, though he was often frustrated by his favorite teams the Tigers and the Spartans. Longtime member of Prince of Peace Lutheran in Westland. Visitation to be held at the R.G. & G.R. Harris Funeral Home at 15451 Farmington Rd. Livonia, MI 48154, Friday, September 29, 2017 beginning at 1:00 pm, with service to follow at 3:00 pm.
