Gordon Hunter, Jr.

Hunter, Gordon Jr. Died June 13, 2011 with his wife and daughters at his side. He is survived by Catherine, his loving, devoted wife of 53 years, his daughters Judy Hunter (Jim Faulk) and Cindy Hunter (Rick Nieman), and four grandchildren of whom he was so proud, Stevie Faulk, C.J. Faulk, Matt Nieman, and Molly Nieman. His first born daughter, Heidi, preceded him in death two years ago. Mr. Hunter was born and raised in New Jersey, attended college, and served on the US Air Force baseball team and in the reserves. He moved to Michigan in 1958 with Catherine where they raised their daughters. He retired from the Fireman's Fund American Insurance Company. He was active in the local community, serving as PTA president and on various boards at his church, to name a few. After he retired he stayed busy volunteering - at the Detroit Zoo, the Fisher Theatre, and the Detroit Opera Theatre. He volunteered for "Fish for Livonia", and most notably, with the American Red Cross, where he was once named "Volunteer of the Year." Mr. Hunter loved sports, especially golf. This, coupled with pride in his Scottish heritage, led him to a highlight in his life: attending the 1990 British Open at St. Andrews. He and Catherine shared a wonderful, and full, life together that included simple pleasures: travelling, eating out with friends, and quiet evenings at home. He had a great sense of humor, and his light-hearted, positive attitude was endearing to all. He is remembered by his family and friends as steady, constant and kind, a gentleman, and a gentle man. A Service to honor his life will be held on Saturday, July 9, 2011 at 11 am at Mt. Hope Congregational Church in Livonia.
