George Homanick

George Homanick- January 15, 1924 – December 4, 2019. George was born to John and Mary (Kuzma) Homanick, as the youngest of four children (siblings John, Michael, and Ann), and the only child to be born in the United States, the family having emigrated from Czechoslovakia. In 1943 at the age of 18 George enlisted in the Air Force, and it was through the Air Force that he was able to receive his education, having attended UCLA and Harvard University, and graduating from Lawrence Institute of Technology. His working career was in the field of engineering, and his last position was vice president with Cargill Manufacturing, from where he retired at the age of 73 in 1997. George and Arlene were married in 1947 and together raised three daughters: Sheryl Lynn (Mitchell, Ken), Denise Carol (Wadkins, Mike), and Elise Gail (Smith, Marty). They were blessed with five grandchildren: Matthew Mitchell, Mark Mitchell (Amy), Emily Mitchell (England, Matt), Luke Wadkins, and Christopher Wadkins (Nicole). George was a loving caregiver for Arlene during her extended illness until she went home to be with the Lord in 2003. George was also blessed with seven great grandchildren whom he loved dearly: Addison England, Graham England, Carson England, Evan England, Bowers Mitchell, Kate Mitchell, and George Mitchell. George’s life was defined by and centered on serving His Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He became a Christian while in the Air Force, and continued to serve Him faithfully. He began teaching the Harmony class at Temple Baptist Church in Redford, MI, in the mid-seventies, and then at Northridge Church in Plymouth, MI, a ministry that spanned 38 years. He was a great student of the Word of God, and was always reading and studying his Bible. He was known for his outgoing personality and made friends easily and always made the other person feel important. He was greatly loved and respected by his family and friends alike. A Visitation for George will be held at the R.G. & G. R. Harris Funeral Home,15451 Farmington Rd, Livonia, MI, Friday, January 17 from 9:30am until his Funeral Service at 11:00am. Interment will follow at the Glen Eden Cemetery in Livonia ,35667 Eight Mile Rd. Memorial Contributions may be directed in George’s name to Westside Chapel, 4541 suite 8 Shirley Ave, Jacksonville, FL 32210. Please share a memory of George on his tribute wall.
