Gary Reed of Canton, born May 21, 1956, passed away suddenly on October 3, 2016 at age 60. Gary grew up in the Brightmoor neighborhood of Detroit where he graduated from Redford High School. Gary married his high school sweetheart Jennifer and attained a Master's Degree in Biology from Eastern Michigan University. Gary went on to open multiple comic book stores across the metro-Detroit area and launched local comic conventions. In 1989, Gary founded Caliber Comics, one of the country's leading independent graphic novel publishing firms. Caliber was responsible for publishing over 1300 comics, graphic novels, and books, including Baker Street, Deadworld, and Saint Germaine. In addition to his career in the comic book industry, Gary greatly enjoyed teaching biology at several colleges over the years. He was praised by his students for being a lively and engaging instructor who made biology exciting. Gary is survived by his wife Jennifer; daughters Stephanie, Jessica, Alison, and Erica; his twin brother Terry and brothers Mark and Jim; his sisters-in-law Susan Burke and Debbie Andrews; his brother-in-law Tom Andrews; and his mother-in-law Marie Andrews.
