Frances "Fran" Allen

Frances Leah "Fran" Allen age 90, formerly of Point Place, passed away Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at Esprit Whispering Ridge in Omaha, Nebraska. "Fran" was born February 1, 1924 in Huntington, West Virginia to Ben and Mae Akers. She married Hairston "Bud" Allen July 31, 1942 and they celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in 2012. The anniversary celebration was a true party celebrated by their son, daughter, spouses, grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as neighbors and friends. Their seventy years of marriage was an example to all. Fran, in December of 2012, moved from Point Place to Omaha, Nebraska to be near her daughter Gail Sue Edmonds and her grandson Sean McLeod. She spent over a year in the Esprit Whispering Ridge memory unit where she was wonderfully taken care of by the entire staff especially Tammi . In the last few months her care was overseen by Hospice and the family cannot thank them enough, especially Lisa, for their loving care. Fran is survived by her son Darryl Frank Allen (Sharon) of Toledo and daughter Gail Sue Edmonds (Rob) . She is also survived by 5 grandsons; Richard, James (Renee'), Michael (Kathryn), Sean (Anne), Ben (Kristy), and granddaughter Mae (Steven) and many great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Bud, their son Dennis Hurston Allen, Fran's sister Margaret and brothers Frank and Gerald. Funeral Service 10 AM Monday, August 18th at the R.G. & G.R. Harris Funeral Home, 15451 Farmington Rd., Livonia, MI. She will be laid to rest with the urn containing the ashes of her beloved husband and next to their son, Dennis and her parents. Gail and Darryl will share memories of their mother and the wonderful life she had. "She chose to be a homemaker devoted to her family and we learned our values from the example she and our dad set every day." The family wishes to thank all of the friends and neighbors who enriched Fran's life and the caretakers who made her so comfortable. The family also wishes to acknowledge their friends who have provided support and comfort. Contributions in memory of Fran could be made to the Hospice of the donor's choice.
