Dorothy "Dotty" Mains

Dorothy Ann "Dotty" Mains Age 81, passed away May 26, 2014 in the loving care of the compassionate men and women of West Hickory Haven Nursing Center. Formerly of Farmington Hills, Mi. She was a Retiree of Botsford Hospital. Always surrounded by family and friends "Gramma Dotty" was a loving inspiration to all who sought comfort. Loving mother of David (Joan-Lois "Joanie"), Debra (Kurt) Marzka, Duane (Mary Jane), Darla (Larry) Parsons and the late Danny and the many, many people who called her mom over the years. Devoted grandmother "who taught us young, how to appreciate Coffee and Christ" of Lindsey Ann, Kathleen Louise "Katie", Meghan Elizabeth, Sarah Ann, Ashley Nicole and Brian Alexander. Great grandmother of Riley Lee, Kaylie Madison, Henry James and baby Jonathon. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Chester and Lena Smith and sister, Elaine Heistand. Dorothy was blessed with a beautiful singing voice which she dedicated to the Lord. "To Be Used of God" was the way she lived her entire life and taught to others who crossed her path. She began her singing career by singing at funerals and weddings at the age of eleven. Dorothy continued to inspire others at churches and events throughout her life. In May of 1956 she won the "Stairway to the Stars" TV competition and received a week, all paid, in New York City with her then husband Richard. She recorded two record albums; "A Man and Woman of Song" and "To Be Used of God" during the many years of traveling with her singing partner, sharing the Gospel and her gift with others. She was an avid reader who loved to study Genealogy and Astrology and spend time with her family. Visitation at the R.G. & G.R.
