Donald (Don) E. Hieftje

Donald E. Hieftje, age 81, September 6, 2023, of Novi.

Beloved husband of Yoshimi.  Loving father of Sherri (Donald "Don") Town, Robert Hieftje, Patricia (John Biederman) Wilhoit & the late Jeremy Shin'ichi Fukuoka Hieftje.  Dear grandfather of Nathan, Jacob, Deborah and Devyn.  Brother of Gloria (Glenn) Scharphorn, Lois Price, and John Hieftje.

Don was an excellent teacher at Grand Haven High School for 30 years (1964-1994). Donald was loved and respected by numerous students and faculty over the years and received the “Educator Achievement Award “ many times.   If you lived in Grand Haven, there's a good chance you were a student of Mr. Hieftje's at one time or another, and everyone raved about Mr. Hieftje, "The Best Teacher Ever".  He actively volunteered for the “Meals on Wheels” program for numerous years in Novi.  Don was a lead singer of “Beyond Belief” senior singing & dancing group and until most recently, he led “Contemporary Issues” class at Livonia Senior Center. He loved to act and be involved in the theatre. Don will be greatly missed by all and his smile.

A Visitation will be held on Sunday, September  10, 2023 from 2:00-6:00 pm at the R.G. & G.R. Harris Funeral Home, 15451 Farmington Rd., Livonia.

Burial Service will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at 1:30 p.m. at Lake Forest Cemetery, 1304 Lake Ave., Grand Haven, MI 49417. There will be a short service in the chapel followed by graveside.
