Donald Martin Hathaway

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Donald Martin Hathaway on February 13, 2025, at the age of 75. Don was a devoted father, grandfather, craftsman, and retired truck driver, who lived a life full of pride in his work and love for his family.

After a long and dedicated career with Central Transport at Buick City, Don retired as a truck driver, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and commitment. Beyond his professional life, Don’s passion for craftsmanship flourished in his beloved pole barn, where he spent countless hours creating intricate wooden toy animals and trucks. He took great joy in sharing his creations with children, especially his grandchildren, and his generous spirit brought warmth to all who received his gifts.

Don was especially proud of the home he built in Alger, where he poured his heart into transforming it into a personal sanctuary, reflecting his love for the things he valued most in life.

In 2019, Don was diagnosed with dementia, and the last years of his life were spent under the loving care of the staff at The Brook in West Branch and later at Livonia Comfort Care in Livonia, where he passed peacefully.

Don is survived by his devoted daughter, Lisa Warren; his sister, Lynn Scarlett; his grandchildren, Dylan Hathaway, Danielle Fox, and Taylor Warren; and his great-grandchild, Adam Warren. He was preceded in death by his son, Robert Hathaway, and his sister, Kathleen Johnston.

No services are scheduled at this time. Any donations can be made in Don’s memory to a charity of the giver's choice.
