David Herbert Henkel

July 1, 1924 — December 22, 2016

David Herbert Henkel, 92, of Indian River, MI went home to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on December 22, 2016. He died peacefully at home. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Margaret Henkel, his parents, Herbert and Fern Henkel, and his brother Harold Henkel. David is survived by his wife of 17 years, Dulcie Henkel of Howell, MI, his children, Judith and Gerald Burger, David C. (Sharon) Henkel, Gareth and Patricia Henkel, Pamela and Gerald Bauer, Virginia Klinkman, Michael and Debbie Gosline, Kathryn Trudeau and Craig Porter, and Jeannie and Anthony Morfino. David is also survived by 25 grandchildren and their spouses, and 27 great-grandchildren. David was a WWII veteran who served in the Army and was wounded in Okinawa. He was a tool and gauge machinist, who retired 3 times before it finally took. In his 70's he served as a lay pastor for Westland Free Methodist and continued to attend church until his health failed. He also was a phenomenal father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He adored children and lit up when one was near. He had a great sense of humor and a contagious smile. He will be sorely missed by his entire family. Funeral Service Tuesday, at 10am, at the R.G. & G.R. Harris Funeral Home, 31551 Ford Rd., Garden City. Visitation Monday from 1pm until 8pm.
