Charles Frederick "Rip" Collins Age 91, died June 20, 2011. Dear husband of Kathleen, father of Joseph (Sue), Charles, Kathleen (Terry) Wasinger, James, Robert (Patti), Patrick (Catherine) and Kathleen's children: Carol (David) Greene and Cynthia McFarland. Also survived by 15 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty; son, Michael and sister, Bettianne King. He was proud to serve as a Detroit Fireman; in the Marines during World War II and Korea, and was a highly decorated Marine. He received The Distinguised Flying Cross. Following retirement from the military, Rip was Assistant Equipment Manager for the Detroit Lions and then for short lived Detroit Wheels. Lastly, he served as Manager of the Detroit Tigers Visitors Clubhouse. Following retirement Rip became the "Voice of the Spartans" at Stevenson High School, Livonia. Memorial contributions are requested to Angela Hospice or Stevenson High School Athletic Department. A Memorial Service will be held at R.G. & G.R. Harris Funeral Home, 15451 Farmington Rd., Livonia, Friday, July 8, 2011 at 11 am. The family will receive friends from 9:30 until time of service.
