Cathryn E. Maerzluft

September 1, 1946 — June 14, 2017

Cathy Maerzluft, 70, died Wednesday, June 14, 2017 of the attendant complications of Lou Gehrig's disease, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. Cathy was the wife of Jakob Maerzluft of Troy, the daughter of Eleanor and the late Frederick C. Russell of Grosse Pointe Woods, the brother of Don (Irene) Russell of Downieville, CA, the inlaw of Maerzlufts scattered across the nation, and cousin to a handful of Russells of the metropolitan area. Other shirttail kin hail from Upper Canada and east Tennessee. Cathy was a member of Grosse Pointe High School's Class of 1964, and Spring Arbor College's class of 1968, later obtaining a Masters Degree from Wayne State University. Upon graduation from college, Cathy taught elementary school in St. Clair Shores, Macomb Christian, was a librarian at Oak Park Library, and retired as a school librarian in East Detroit. She was a devout and faithful Christian. She and her husband were active members of Highland Park Baptist Church. She was a member of PEO, Promoting Educational Opportunities for women, and Community Bible Studies. She enjoyed gardening, all kinds of handcrafts including scrapbooking and knitting. She was a loyal friend and correspondent, strong-willed but selfless in her concerns. Visitation will be held at Sullivan & Sons Funeral Home from 3 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, June 18. Instate at Highland Park Baptist Church, Monday, June 19, at 10:00 a.m. until time of Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. with internment midafternoon at Woodlawn Cemetery.
