Bertie Lou Cole Trygstad of Plymouth, MI age 93, died February 1, 2022 at Angela Hospice in Livonia. Bertie was born in Terre Haute, Indiana to Raymond and May (Trimble) Johnson on January 24th, 1929, the youngest of a close family of five children, the late Robert and Gene Johnson and Harriet Jane (Johnson) King and Cordelia "Tootsie" (Johnson) Duvall. The family moved to Wayne, Michigan when Bertie was 13 years old and she graduated from Wayne High School in 1946. She worked as a secretary at Detroit Edison where she met Arthur T Cole. They married in 1951 and bought a home in Livonia in the new Rosedale Gardens. Bertie also worked at Ford Motor Company, but her longest position was as financial secretary at Rosedale Gardens Presbyterian Church, where she has been a faithful member since the early 1950s. She was widowed in 1985 but married Art's good friend and golf partner, the late Ardnt Trygstad, in 1990, and lived in Trenton until 2011 when she moved to Independence Village in Plymouth. Bertie is the loving mother of Christine (Bruce) Johnson, Susie (Dennis) Witte and Arthur (Susan) Cole and the beloved grandmother of Philip (Tracy), Erica (Derek), Christine, Andrew, Alex, Cole and the late Stefan, Douglas and Emma (David). She is the great grandmother of Alia, Sadie and Beckham and aunt to many nieces and nephews. Bertie is remembered as having a sparkle in her eyes and her attire, a ready laugh and a sentimental tear, a person who enjoyed holidays and gatherings of friends and family, including her long standing "Pinochle Club" of high school friends, and her special places, the cottage at Stag Island Ontario and the condo in Bradenton Florida. A talented seamstress and crafter, she loved reading, tv crime shows and sports, and was an ever-persistent Lions fan. Bertie's Funeral Service will take place at Rosedale Gardens Presbyterian Church, 9601 Hubbard, Livonia, Saturday, Feb 5, 2022 at 11 AM with visitation starting at 10 AM.
