Arthur "Dan" Cruz

February 4, 1942 — April 2, 2020

Arthur Daniel Cruz, February 4, 1942 - April 2, 2020 Arthur Daniel Cruz (known to his close friends and family as Dan or Danny), a longtime resident of Westland, passed away on April 2, 2020. He was 78 years old. Dan was born on February 4, 1942 in Detroit Michigan, one of nine children to Fernando and Otilia Cruz. Dan was the beloved husband of Irene for 52 years. Before they were married, Dan would wash his car every day when Irene was walking home from school, just to see her walk by. Irene was the love of his life and he was extremely devoted to her. Together they raised three children. Dan was a proud Vietnam Veteran. After his service in the army, Dan became a skill trades Millwright at Ford where he worked for 41 years. He was extremely hardworking and worked seven days a week for years to take care of his family. Dan was the true definition of a father and grandfather. He was completely devoted to his family and was always there for his family. He was adored by his grandchildren (affectionately called “Bumpa”) and he attended every practice, game, rehearsal, concert, and event of his grandchildren with snacks, candy, and treats in tow for the kids. Of all the achievements in his life, Dan felt his greatest accomplishments were his wife, children, and grandchildren. He was extremely loyal and would do anything for his family at the drop of a hat. If anyone in his family ever needed anything, he was always there. He would help them, fix things for them, or do whatever was asked. He lived and breathed for his family. His passing is an incredible loss to his family and friends. Dan was a very loving and kindhearted man. He loved animals and even when at times when he did not have a dog in the house, he would continue to buy dog biscuits and fill his pockets with treats- just in case he might run into a dog that day. Dan enjoyed spending time with friends and family and was well liked by everyone. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing softball with his friends and colleagues at Ford. Irene and their children would attend the games and cheer him on. He will be missed by so many, mostly his children, Kelly (Chris) Styers, Keith (Michele) Cruz, and Kevin (Marie) Cruz. His children were so blessed to have this one of a kind man as our father and will continue to share an unbreakable bond with him. His grandchildren, Courtney (Cody) Fields, Nicholas Farmer, Joseph Styers, Brianna Schiffer, Daniel Schiffer, Kevin Cruz, Brady Cruz, Alana Cruz, Aubriana Cruz, Tyler Cruz, and Jordyn Jackson will carry on the legacy of this wonderful man. In addition, he is survived by his siblings, Ofelia, Carmen, Angeline, Margarita, Rose Marie, Christine. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Joseph and Josephine. He will also be missed by many extended family members and dear friends. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, June 20, 2020, at 11am (instate at 9:30am) at Friendship Church, 1240 N. Beck Rd., Canton, MI 48187. Visitation will be on Friday from 1pm until 9pm at RG & GR Harris Funeral Home, 31551 Ford Rd., Garden City, MI 48135. At this time, there will be a limit of 10 people per visitation room, still practicing 6 foot social distancing. Please share a memory of this great man that will be missed beyond measure on his Tribute Wall.
