Alton B. Cullum
July 6, 1928 – February 16, 2023
Alton went home to be with his Lord and Savior on February 16, 2023. Alton was born in Gibson, Tennessee to Mildred and Reverend Sidney Cullum on July 6, 1928. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Elizabeth Blankenship (Joe) and loving wife Mary Bell.
Mary Bell and Alton fell in love as teenagers and married on January 30, 1946. They left the farmlands of Tennessee for employment in the auto industry in Detroit and later moved to Dearborn Heights in the early 1950s to start a family. Alton was hired at Letts Drop Forge where two of his uncles worked and started as a helper in the shop. He worked through successive assignments over a 40-year career and became the plant manager before his retirement.
He is survived by three children: Gary, Terry (Jeaniene), Lisa (Jim) Earley and loving grandfather to seven grandchildren: Kimberly (Richard) Logue, Jeff (Angie) Cullum, Elizabeth (Jeremy) Biddle, Lauren (Steve) Johnson, Kevin (Ashley) Cullum, Thomas Cullum and fiancé Alicia Kitson, Meredith (Michael) Baker and eight great-grandchildren: Sophia Biddle, Ava Cullum, Charlize Logue, Gwyneth Johnson, Blake Cullum, Evan Johnson, Ailyn Cullum and Cohen Baker.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 24th from 1:00 to 3:00 pm with funeral service immediately following at 3:00 pm at the R.G. and G.R. Harris Funeral Home at 15451 Farmington Road in Livonia. Entombment will follow on Saturday, February 25th at 10:00 am at Michigan Memorial Park Cemetery in Flat Rock, Michigan.
