Allen LaFayette Sweet, Jr. Son of Allen LaFayette Sweet, Sr. and Esther Sweet, born February 6, 1928 died in his home on Monday, April 7, 2008. He attended Detroit Central High School, University of South Carolina and graduated from Michigan State University with Phi Kappa Phi honors. He was a lieutenant in the ROTC, a lieutenant Navy fighter pilot, who flew F4U-Corsairs in the Korean War, where he received three Silver Air medals. He later wrote a book describing his combat, entitled "The Brown Shoes". He owned Sweet & Associates Insurance Agency in Bingham Farms since 1954, a firm founded by his grandfather in 1919, where his exemplary legacy lives on. He received his CPCU and many insurance honors. He was involved in much community and church service, among them: President of Kiwanis-Detroit Central, Precinct Delegate of Bloomfield Hills, Trinity Church of Farmington Treasurer and Advent Episcopal Church Treasurer and Vestry.He will be remembered for his witty sense of humor, his kindness to the downtrodden and his Godly life. He will be missed by his wife of 56 years, Ellen Love Sweet, his two sons Robert and Kevin Sweet, his two daughters Mary Ellen Andrews and Suzanne Sanders, his two sons-in-law Stevan Andrews and Ken Sanders. He blesses as he leaves his 8 grandchildren: Erin Whiteside, Ryan Sweet, John, Ashley and James Andrews and Peter, Elizabeth and Andrew Sanders. A Memorial Service will be held Thursday at 1:00 PM April 10 at Advent Episcopal Church, 3325 Middlebelt, West Bloomfield.
