Alex G. Chernenkoff

April 19, 1923 — June 29, 2015

Alex G. Chernenkoff Went home to be with the Lord on June 29, 2015. He was born on April 19, 1923, in Saskatchewan, Canada. Alex was a devoted husband to Elaine for almost 65 years. He was a loving father to Dee, Russell (Celeste) and Eric (Diane). He was a proud grandfather to Theresa (Jeffrey), Steven(Kristen), and Ethan and great-grandfather to Chloe, Alexander and Oliver. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Army, 88th Division, as a machine gunner during World War II. Alex was part of the Italy campaign where he was captured during fighting at Monte Cassino and taken to Germany as a POW until the end of the war. He also was in the Army Reserves for 32 years, retiring at the rank of Major. Alex also served as a Detroit Police Officer for 25 years. A Funeral Service will be held at R.G. & G.R. Harris Funeral Home, 15451 Farmington Rd., Livonia, Tuesday at 11 a.m. Visitation Monday 5 - 8 p.m. Interment at Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly.
